With laughter from the crowd he would introduce his daughter to his friends. On his trips across Texas his ten year old daughter was his mascot basically. When Ima questioned her name her father told her that he choose it from a civil war poem. Once he realized the consequences of her name it was to late to change it. Ima was very cautious about her name she did not like introducing her self to other people.

Every summer Sallie Hogg, she will take the kids to her fathers plantation so they could get out of the house. They always described the plantation as paradise because every time they would go their would be fruit and vegetables growing. When they would stay on the plantation Ima would stay in a room and hang out with her aunt which is a widow, and her brothers would go with there grandfather to see how the machinery worked. After all the fun they had to go home.

The house didn't have much to offer but what it did offer was a roof over their head. But they looked at the house as another project and went to work, shortly after ward it looked as beautiful as it did on the outside.
Since Jim was always working Sallie had to take care of the kids by herself. Unfortunately Sallie always had really bad stomach pains and head aches. Ima spent most of her time when she was younger with her because she was ill. Jim got offered a lot of jobs but he turned them down because his family was more important. To help Sallie with kids he got a maid named Grace Bauer. Grace helped her every way possible she could, she even put off her own wedding to take care of her.
